Each of us understands the world in their own way. Every object, symbol, word and image has its own unique, unique importance for billions of people living on this planet. Accordingly, the creation of a universal dream book that each time the same meaning explained dream at least poor joke.

The importance of sleep each must be considered separately, taking into account the situation and mental state of the person who dreamed. Understanding dreams is no small challenge, but work on dreams may prove to be an important and revealing tool for our personal development.

In this article you will learn:

what in general are dreams and what they say about the latest research,
how to create your own dream book, and how to remember your dreams in detail,
how to analyze the significance of his dreams (exercise “Analysis of dreams in 5 steps”)
how to restore the dream to life and re-experience it (exercise “Reviving a Dream”).

Do not expect, however, ready-made answers and simple solutions. Understanding your dreams is like solving a puzzle. Each is different and only you have the key to solve them all.

The importance of dreams from the perspective of psychology

To learn how to discover the meaning of dreams, we must first find out what is their role in our lives. The solution to this puzzle is not so obvious – scientists still do not know the definite answer to the question “what are dreams?”. On the basis of recent research neuropsychologists can distinguish 4 main hypotheses to explain the role of dreams in our lives:

Dreams are interpreting random signals from the brain and body while when we sleep;
Dreams are aimed at processing and consolidating information collected throughout the day;
Dreams represent unconscious desires and wishes;
Dreams act as a form of psychotherapy.

Interestingly, the therapeutic role of dreams was the object of interest to psychologists and therapists before the current technology was available. Freud claimed that dreams are attempts at solutions by our subconscious mental conflicts with which we can not deal with during the day. Fritz Perls, founder of Gestalt therapy said that sleep is a tool that tells us exactly where we are now in relation to ourselves and to the world. He saw in his dreams the possibility of integration of personality (resolve internal conflicts, freedom from fear, etc.).

Carl Gustav Jung analyzed thousands of dreams and understand them as a reliable way to understand the man. He claimed that dreams serve as compensation, which means that satisfy desires that can not be met in everyday life (eg. A guy in an unhappy relationship can dream of an affair with an attractive woman).

“The dream is a theater in which the dreamer is a stage actor, prompter, producer, author, audience and critic. This simple truth forms the basis for the concept of the meaning of dreams, which I call the interpretation of the subject. This interpretation assumes that all the figures in the dream is personified personality traits of the dreamer. ” – Carl Gustav Jung

If we have a problem that we can not face alone, often “we sweep it under the carpet.” We do not want to think about it, relegate it to the farthest corners of our subconscious. However, every need of our psyche must find some outlet, and dreams is a condition in which our guard (awareness) is dormant. Then everything “comes out on top” in the form of images, associations, symbols. According to this hypothesis, every element of sleep is an expression of a part of our personality.

If in everyday life remains something “ajar”, unfinished, your subconscious mind will want to take care of it and express it through dreams. Sleep is therefore a reflection of our inner world, his unconscious aspects. They can be used as a way to understand what so we do not want, or we are afraid we can not understand.

Dreams written in a well-run senniku can thus become an invaluable source of information about ourselves – about what is happening in our psyche. This diary is an invaluable aid in the discovery of the meaning of dreams.

The importance of dreams in personal development

As analysis of our own dreams can help us in personal development?

Dreams help us realize our fears, worries and doubts. For example, my wife 2 months before our wedding dreamed abundant in snow wedding day (which was scheduled for June). It was an unconscious expression of fear that the marriage may fail for reasons beyond its control (eg. Due to bad weather);
Dreams can show us our unconscious dreams and desires. Normally, such that in everyday life we deny or do not want to admit to themselves (for example, sexual fantasies);
Dreams can provide for us a clue. They can pay our attention to something that is important to us, and neglect (eg. The relationship with the old, good friend, with whom I have not talked);
Dreams can contain creative solutions to our daily (or unusual) problems. Paul McCartney of The Beatles woke up one morning with a melody in my head, which he dreamed for a moment before. Quickly wrote down the notes, and so created the song “Yesterday”.

I believe that dreams are a great source of knowledge about ourselves and the “material” to be worked using a variety of methods of personal development. Even the knowledge of our dreams can be our discovery and awareness raising. It is therefore important to create your own dream book and yourself to get to know the meaning of dreams that we dream every day.

Before you propose an idea for such a dream book, there is one more important thing. To analyze your own dreams was at all possible, you must first memorize them. When I started my adventure of personal development, I was fascinated by the idea of lucid dreaming (amazing phenomenon, where you know you’re in a dream – and you can be aware of the impact on its course). To practice lucid dreaming since I started keeping a diary of dreams.

At the beginning I did not remember at all any dreams. After a few days have listed some scraps, single images and situations. After another few days longer remember 1 or 2 full of dreams. In the end, after some time, when you wake up, my head was full of colorful images – remembered an average of 3 to 5 day dreams with all their details.

About how to exercise your memory dreams I wrote in the article How to remember your dreams.

First of all, you should obtain a good, nice notebook, or a simple, transparent application for mobile devices (which allow you to create short notes and determination of their dates). According to the suggestions from the article about the memory of dreams each day write down your dreams – so to remember at least one or two dreams daily (At the beginning will not be easy, but nevertheless write down everything you remember, even if they are “scraps.”).

Your dreams do not have to be accurately described, just a set of key words. Writing short and general notes helps to save dreams of times after waking up, especially when you remember 3 or 4 day dreams. Describing the entire sleep with the details may take some time. However, you could well be useful to analyze your sleep you rather accurate description. That is why I propose to describe exactly just those dreams that caught your attention.

I hope it is clear to you that the right amount of sleep is the key here. As you wake up sleepy this is not what you dream of clear and detailed memory of dreams.

When your dream book is ready, and when you’re in the first few dreams, you can take the analysis of the meaning of dreams.

Analysis of dreams in 5 steps:

1. In the description of his dream mark the elements that draw your attention. Characters, objects, events.

2. Write them separately, under the description of your dream. Think about what the elements of sleep for you mean. What are the emotions you cause? What emotions you felt during sleep compared to those characters, objects and events?

3. Now think of what life situations, dilemmas, problems and objectives are those associated components. What really can relate to this dream?

4. Read the description of sleep again, whereas life situation, which have linked it. Pull requests. What do you teach this dream? As changes your view of this situation? Posed tips? What’s your subconscious trying to tell you? Write down everything you can think of.

5. No matter how many applications you manage to pull out, leave it at this stage. Return to your interpretation of this dream tomorrow or in a few days and think about this dream again.

Pay particular attention to the last step. This is not the end of the work on the dream. Monitor each other during the day, especially in situations that are associated with the sleep. Consider why your subconscious wants to draw your attention to this particular situation.

It’s quite possible that the next night you will dream another dream on the same topic. This will be an opportunity to supplement their thoughts and discover new things. Some dreams will appear until you resolve the problem (we can dream every day for several years!).

Try not nadinterpretować not stretch, do not guess. All your observations treat as an opportunity, not as a fact. Remember that the most valuable are the first associations. Sometimes you just know what the dream, and there is no room for doubt. Listen to your intuition, there is a good chance that she will tell you what the your dream. And most importantly – everything you make a note in your senniku check in your everyday life. In this way you learn to “translate” the language of dreams and read it with the situations that you Happen during the day.
